 🤍 Registered nurse

Trained in microsuction, with years of hands-on experience

🗓️ Open weekends

Saturday and Sunday appointments that fit around work and school

🏡 Whole family

Children aged five and up, adults, and older ears too. We can accommodate our littlest clients on a case-by-case basis.

What to expect:

Step One: Book a time that suits

Book your appointment online or through phone. No referral needed. You will get an email or text to confirm your appointment (if booked in advance). You will also be sent through forms to complete prior to your appointment. If this isn't possible for you, you can complete this on the day of your appointment.

Step Two: A gentle look

We start with an ear check, talk through what's going on, explain what we see and what needs to be done. Before commencing on any treatment, we obtain your informed consent.

Step 3: Comfortable microsuction

If wax needs clearing, microsuction or manual cleaning will done. Most people leave hearing more clearly on the same visit. In some cases, this may not happen and you will be required to come back for a follow-up appointment or see an external provider (audiologist, GP, etc.)

Ear care with a gentle touch

Clare, a practice nurse registered with the Nursing Council in New Zealand, has provided hands-on ear syringing and microsuction services under supervision and under scope since 2019, and completed formal microsuction training with EEMT in 2024.

Otix Ear Care aims to make ear care services as comfortable and accessible as possible. Hence the weekend appointments from a warm, welcoming space means you don't have to take time off work to have your ears, or your children's ears, looked after.

As a new mum herself, she understands busy family life, and she's on a mission to make good ear care accessible to the local community, in both time and place.

Need to know!

Ear checks are NOT hearing tests

An ear check looks at the ear itself, the anatomy, for signs of wax, infection, trauma or a foreign body. A hearing test is a different assessment that is carried out by an audiologist with specialised training and equipment.

When you need an audiologist

Otix Ear Care does not provide hearing screening, tympanometry, audiometry or hearing-aid fitting. If your visit suggests you'd benefit from any of these, we'll happily refer you to a trusted audiology provider nearby or a provider of your choice.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is ear microsuction?

Microsuction is a gentle way to remove built-up ear wax. Using magnification and a small suction device, wax is cleared without flushing water into the ear, which many people find more comfortable than syringing.

What's the difference between an ear check and a hearing check?

An ear check is an assessment of the external part of the ear itself for wax, infection, trauma or a foreign body. A hearing check measures how well you hear and is carried out by an audiologist using specialised equipment. Otix provides ear checks and microsuction only and refers to an audiologist for hearing tests of needed.

Do you see children?

Yes. At this stage, Otix sees children aged 5 years and older, as well as adults. Care for children less than 5 years of age can be accommodated on a case-by-case basis. Please call to discuss prior to booking.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. You can book an appointment directly online, or send an enquiry if you'd like to check something first.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes. We periodically offer discounts and promos every now and again. Follow us on our socials (Facebook and Instagram) to get updates on these promos. We are currently working to get contracts with WINZ, SuperGold and Veteran's affairs for funding. Keep posted here on our website or in our socials for updates on the pricing.

What if I need a hearing test or hearing aids?

Those services are provided by audiologists. If your visit suggests you'd benefit from a hearing test or hearing-aid fitting, we'll refer you to a trusted audiology provider nearby or to a provider of your choice.

Where are you based and when are you open?

Our main clinic is based in Whenuapai. We open on weekends: Saturdays from 9am-3pm and Sundays from 9am-1pm. We also are opening a Henderson clinic by 12 September and will also run a once a month clinic in Rosedale from October. Watch this space for updates or follow us on our socials.
